Breast Cancer Occurrence: Women vs. Men

Approximately 203,500 women were diagnosed in 2002 with invasive breast cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.  Although the condition also occurs in men – with 1,500 American males expected to be diagnosed this year – they make up just 1% of the total number of breast cancer cases.  Of the nearly 40,000 Americans who will die from breast cancer this year, 39,600 will be women.
