Preventing Vaginal Yeast Infections

You can significantly reduce the risk of contracting a yeast infection by following some simple lifestyle changes.

  • After a bath or shower, dry your vaginal area thoroughly.

  • After using the toilet, wipe from front to back.  This will prevent the spread of bacteria to the vagina.

  • Wear all-cotton underwear (or at least those with a cotton crotch).

  • Remove damp clothes (especially a wet bathing suit) as soon as possible.

  • If you’re taking an antibiotic, consider increasing your acidophilus intake, either through the foods you eat or by taking supplements.  Acidophilus is available in most pharmacies or health food stores.

  • Easting a well-balanced diet, exercising regularly, and reducing stress may help to prevent the occurrence of conditions like yeast infections.
